| Spring Break: Fun, Sun, Young and Porn
If Spring Break was in the dictionary; it may be defined something like this:
Spring Break - n- The annual migration of college students and other adventurous teenagers to Southern climates, and beach locales. Occurs mostly during a 6-week period from early March to April. See also Spring Breaker - one who attends Spring Break. Spring Breakers are ones who indulge in beer, public drunkenness, experimental sex, mind altering drugs. Can be seen mostly wearing little or no clothing, or skimpy swimwear. See also, Bongs, Beads, Flashing.
Spring Break has come along way from its early roots. Started as a quiet break from college classes in the 1950's, it is now a free for all romp documented every year from exotic locations like Cancun, South Padre Island, Panama City Beach, and Lake Havasu by the one and only, MTV. Spending a couple weekends covering Spring Break can make one in his early 30's immediately feel very old.
Having been to a couple years of these events, there is a definite theme that develops each year. In the past it could've been a certain song or saying (I'm not even going to say Whazzzuppp!) This year the definite themes that struck me were beads, and porn. I guess the beads are for more than just Mardi Gras in New Orleans. They have infiltrated Spring Break. All the stores were selling them, cars had
them draped over their mirrors, and guys and girls had them packed around their necks. I don't get it, I didn't see guys offering bead to girls for flashing or the like, it appeared that they were being used for status or decoration.
Once again, another indication that Porn is becoming more mainstream. Video companies and starlets setting up their own booths for the masses at Spring Break events. While I didn't witness it, Jenna Jameson had a nice run for a couple days she appeared and attracted a large gathering on the beach. People were still talking about her appearance a few days after she left. Wicked made a pitch themselves. Wicked sent three girls including Serenity and Alexa to judge a couple contests at the Club LaVela in Panama City Beach. Smart move, Wicked grabbed a captive audience, and introduced themselves to a new younger demographic at this venue. Wicked even got a nice front page article including a picture in the Sunday edition of the Panama City newspaper.
