Luis Cypher I’ve been in the strip club business since I was eighteen, bar backing and bartending. I was a porn fan for longer than that, and was probably more of a perv than any human being at the age of thirteen. I knew I was going to do something sex or animals.

Roger T. Pipe But not the two together.

Luis Cypher No, nothing like that. I was either going to raise animals or be involved in the sex industry. I was working the strip club circuit down in south Florida before Hurricane Andrew came through. That wiped out everything, so I did some small time amateur videos in Florida. I’ve always been a fan and a historian of the industry. I was never a porn mark where I was dying to meet the stars. When I would see them in person I would get a little star crossed. ‘Wow, I’ve jerked off to you, but never thought I would meet you.’ That’s how I got started. My wife of course is Jessica Darlin. She was feature dancing and in one big moment of clarity, she realized that this would be the job she could fall in love with and enjoy doing. We discussed the issues and decided that if she was coming out here to make money, she would be a whore. If she was coming out here to have good sex and find a bunch of people with similar values and interests then that would be a whole different thing. It wasn’t what porn is now, it was more of a family. Porn right now is so mainstream, it’s disgusting. I come from a totally different mindset, from the dirty bookshops and the type of porn that makes you feel filthy watching it. That’s what I’ve always enjoyed feeling like an outlaw. That’s my mindset when I’m making a movie. I don’t want people to be able to think ‘I’ve been there, I know what’s about to happen. I don’t want the piazza boy or cheating husband clichés in my movies. I might add something where the cheating husband dies in a brutal manner, but I want to bring a fresh perspective to this business that people aren’t ready for. I’m shooting directly at Thomas Zupko. I have no interest whatsoever in shock value. When someone like Rob Black sets the standards than everyone else just rides his coat tails. Zupko is light years away in thought and ability compared to Rob. Tell you what Zupko, Shock me by acting like you have sex in your private life and be realistic when you make a movie. I’m going to set a new standard. So, back to your question, how did I get here? It was a simple skip, from strip clubs to my wife wanting to do it, to me loving film, I’ve always wanted to make real movies and I say real because we are not real in this industry. We are not bigger than mainstream stars like some in this business like to pretend. I feel absolutely ordinary when I make a porno. When I see my wife sign autographs for having sex, it’s a little weird. I don’t want anyone to get too big a head in this business from Vivid or Wicked to us or Max Hardcore. The general public looks at us as scum. For us to shun each other and think that one company is better than another or that they make pretty films for couples, you still take the most intimate act in mankind and turn it into an exhibition. That’s great, that’s what we’re here for and that’s what makes us our money. I got into this business thinking I would be among some serious degenerates and perverts and I am going to fit right in. That I would make movies that hit every angle. From rough sex to eroticism to total mind blowing atrocities. I let everyone pick a piece out of the movies and find something they like. Strip clubs, to my wife coming out here, me meeting Rob Black and knowing that we’re the same age, from the same background. I believe that I took a road in life that led me right to Rob and he saw something in me that Patrick Collins overlooked. Pat and I talked about me working for Elegant. He blew it off. He thought I had some great ideas, but he just passed right over. As Mr. Collins always said to me, "anyone can make a porno, but only special people can make great ones." My movies have been nothing but pure success. Everything I’ve done has worked. I know I make films that people want to watch. I don’t make films for the public criticism. I just want everyone to find something they like and get off to it. I know they enjoy them so far. Sorry for the long answer.

Roger T. Pipe No problem, you just covered the first eight questions in one shot. What’s your basic philosophy on what makes a good porn movie?

Luis Cypher I shoot a lot of different things. I shoot for our teen series, I shoot two different documentary lines because I think people are interested in how we live our lives. Example, the internet and how people comment our lives. I shoot the documentary stuff so people can see the performers and the behind the scenes people. I think the general public has the view that we’re fucking in every corner of every room. That’s a good fantasy and I had it when I came in. I thought the second I walked through a door, there would be some guy to fuck my wife in ass while some girl had her legs spread for me. This is a business. If you can make something fun out of it, great. Anyone would want to wake up and fuck for a living. Like I said, I shoot the teen series here and it’s the biggest selling line we have. That’s true all over, there is a huge market for it, at every company. So I like setting up scenes in ours that excite the hell out of people without trying to shock. Once every two months, I create a feature that details some atrocity that has happened in my life. I run an easy set, I love the women in this industry. My wife is one and I know how to treat and respect them. There are people who get girls on the set and don’t give a shit about them. The here today gone tomorrow attitude is why these girls get fucked over so much. I won’t fucking stand for it. Faggot directors want their shot under any condition. They don’t care if that woman might walk off the set and be a different woman because of the way she was treated. I don’t ever want a girl to walk off my set and think that she did something just because I left her no choice. I love this industry and I despise some of the people in it. I love the women who do it, I love the family aspect at Extreme. We’re all in this together. I’ve had some bad times on the set. I had a midget who gave me more fucking problems than any non-mutation on this earth. I can not imagine more shit from one half a person. Most of the girls are great and they walk off the set happy. I care about that. If my wife ever walked off a set feeling like she was taken advantage of, that’s bull shit. That isn’t supposed to happen and I think that unless you have a significant other in this industry, you don’t know what they deal with. You don’t know what it’s like when they come home. I care about that. I don’t ever want my wife to second guess anything she does. If she wants to be a slut, fuck whoever she finds attractive, that’s fucking great. I don’t care about the money. I’ve never touched my wife’s money. The whole fucking pimp issue comes up because we have a relationship in this industry. I’ve never touched a dime of her money. Everything she has is because she earned it. She has the nicest jewelry the nicest clothes because God damn it, she’s earned it. Whether she fucks for money isn’t the issue. She gets off working in this business and that’s a good job.

Roger T. Pipe If you had to pick one movie that you’ve done so far as your best work, what would it be?

Luis Cypher "Last Breath."

Roger T. Pipe Why?

Luis Cypher People who make features often lose track of what this industry is built on, sex. I was lucky enough to put together six scenes that were driven by plot but owned by sex. My plot worked and it didn’t interfere with the sex. The chemistry between all the actors and crew was great. The editor did a fantastic job. He worked his ass and was awesome. The movie is six vignettes all based upon what you would do with your dying breath, but it basically says that you can’t take your toys with you so enjoy life. I really feel like I put together the movie of the year.

Roger T. Pipe Really?

Luis Cypher Yeah. I know that it’s debatable, but I love debates. I don’t give a shit as long as people watch and jack off. If someone says that my movie is too disturbing and that makes it not jack-able, then I fucked up. If we lose sight of the fact that the sex has to be right, then we’ve lost. If your plot gets in the way of the sex, it’s done, you’ve fucked up.

Roger T. Pipe Have you fucked up?

Luis Cypher Yes. Without a doubt. I got into a rut where I was putting out so many movies a month. I shot twenty three out of twenty five days. There no way that can stay fresh. I was creating new plots every day and I thought that they were fresh, but I was walking in, not getting the normal shots I wanted, not getting the performances I should have been getting. This business comes natural to me. I have fucked up at a lot of jobs. I used to clean the cargo holds on 747. I used to throw out the porta-potties. My final breaking day, I was in between strip clubs and I was pouring out a porta-potty and a big human piece of shit landed on my foot. In a surreal moment, I stared at this piece of shit on my foot and knew I had to get out and do more with my movies. One of my movies, I can’t even stand to watch, it’s such a piece of shit. I made the mistake of getting in a zone. It was never about waiting for a paycheck. I love this job so much that money has never been an issue. Rob pays me well and on time. He is best human being I have ever met as far as taking care of the people who work for him. If Rob doesn’t like you, you’re doomed. If you like him and he doesn’t like you, you’re still doomed. He and I have a great rapport and that allows me to do a lot. I know there are companies where people get held back. Rob lets me roam free and do anything I want. For that reason, I believe the next feature I am creating will be the best thing I’ve done. That’s not being cocky, just honest.

Roger T. Pipe You said earlier that there are some people in this business you despise.

Luis Cypher Absolutely. There are a lot of hidden agendas and politics between how your movies get pushed. Maybe you have a conflict in your own office on how your movies are pushed. Other times, it’s higher up the publicity food chain. There were times when my wife has been overlooked because she’s not the kind of person who will go into an office and blow someone for an award. She is a very private person and so am I believe it or not. Except for the crazy orgies in the Summit. I know I’ve said some things to you and on the internet that are outrageous, but we’re both really private people. I hate the industry for the way they favor people based on brown nosing. We are putting some artistic vision into our movies. They do become our babies so I hate when people won’t give something an honest chance to excel.

Roger T. Pipe Any specific names?

Luis Cypher Names? To be honest someone like Thomas Zupko. He has nothing in this world to hold on to. He makes movies to make people see him for more than he is. All of the publicity that he gathers together for Extreme one way or the other finds a way to highlight Zippo. He’s someone who knows the only way to be in a magazine is to put it there himself. It’s despicable. How are we supposed to show up somewhere and be represented by Zupko the Ass Clown. I hate this self-promotion bum who blasted my boss Rob Black a year ago. Whether that was to call him out or to make Zupko look bigger by taking on the guy who basically invented shock value. Rob created that whole type of movie that shocks you into jerking off in an offensive, raw manner. He doesn’t give a rat’s ass what anyone thinks. There is a cult following of Rob Black and a cult hatred of him as well. I am a supporter of Rob and love him as a person, so when Thomas called him out, I was pissed. Rob tells me now that this is how we do it in the business, to call people out as shameless self-promotion. Do I think that Thomas Zupko can make an outrageous movie? Yes. Do I think being outrageous is talented after someone already set the trend? No. What Rob did is one thing. When you’re the originator, you get the credit. Anyone who follows, unless they do it perfectly, are just imitators. The man I’m speaking of doesn’t do it perfectly. I’ve met him and I’ve changed my opinion on him in a lot of ways. For a year, I had a chip on my shoulder in defense of Rob about Zupko. Here comes the guy who totally went all out to get my boss. A year later, we hire him as some bit of twisted revenge? I have yet to understand that. I will not understand taking it out on your enemies by hiring them. It’s an odd bit of vengeance. Do I respect Zupko? No. Will I work with him? Yes. Will I say anything to get me fired? No.

Roger T. Pipe Anyone else?

Luis Cypher I hate the old guard in this industry. I hate the people who think that putting on a condom makes them a better person. I hate the people who make couples oriented movies and don’t think it’s porno. They think it’s "adult film making at its finest." That’s bullshit, you still have a cock going into a pussy and you’re filming it. How intimate is that? You’re the same as me, whether that condom is on or not. I hate the Vivids the Wickeds and the people who don’t appreciate everyone in this industry. I appreciate everyone from the worst film makers to the best as long as they are at least trying to keep the renting public happy. Before I made any of these movies, I was a fan. When someone writes that they liked this scene or hated this scene, that’s fine. When they get into my personal life, we have a problem. I listened to Tom Byron tell me, ‘I’ve been in this industry for twenty years, what are you getting upset about? They win when you fire back on the internet. Of the two people, you’re the one who matters and they win by getting you to respond.’ They have the right to comment on my work, but they don’t have the right to comment on my private life and my marriage. They will do so because the internet is a beautiful place to hide behind your computer and say what you want. Am I getting too far off into another area? I was going there next, so go right ahead. These people are getting into my private life and I made threats. I won’t lie. I made personal threats in emails, not posting to groups. I made personal attacks on people who attacked me. If people have a loved one and they aren’t willing to defend an attack on a loved on, then they’re a jack off. People made physical threats and I made them back. I was told to tone it down. It’s not good for the company and I was being a child. I made a slight apology. I overstepped the boundaries and should have ignored those people. I didn’t mess with the people who are objective, you don’t like my stuff? Fine, at least you watched it and gave it a fair shake. The people who came after my personal life shouldn’t have. As far as fighting with people goes, none of the things that were said about me and my wife were ever said to my face. I’m at every porn convention. If you want to talk to me or have a problem with me, there I am. I’m not hard to find you fucking haters. Those people always have to remember that their biggest fantasy is just another day at work for me! You want to close your fist and come at me, I’ve never backed down. There’s some asshole on the net who says I backed down from a fight on the east coast. Yeah, I’m going to go to the east coast to fight some porn mark who wants to make himself look better by shooting on me. I tried to squash the whole feud but if he felt like I was backing down than face to face will change his mind! My career and wife is my interest but I won’t let shit get out of hand!. I’m trying to grow up. I’m twenty six years old and I’ve been in the business for eight years. It’s not in my best interest to go to jail over something stupid. It’s time for me to be professional. I’m in a billion dollar industry making a name and stepping over people who’ve been in the business for twenty years. I’m just not going to be bothered with it any more. If people really have to get it off of their chest, they can see me at CES or VSDA. Whenever you see me, you’re welcome to come up to me and get it off your chest. I haven’t read the internet once since I had that last battle. I’m too busy with my marriage and career to bother with it. There are too many good things going on in my life to be bothered with stupid shit some nobody says. If the distributors have a problem with my stuff, then that is a problem. If the fans don’t like my stuff, they don’t have to rent or buy it. I love the fans who objectively watch porno. I still jack off. I’m married to a porn star, I’m a porn director, but I still love good porno from anyone. I have a lot of people at other companies who I respect. I have more that I hate. I also totally fucking despise the people who exploit women in this industry. The Max Hardores and them. A girl coming into the business might see the dollar bill and go do something, but to take a girl and drain her of everything just so you can make a movie? Fuck that. All the rough sex fans will boo when they hear that, but I care too much about these girls to be like that. I’ve never hit on one on a set or fondled her when she didn’t want. I truly care about them.

Roger T. Pipe You handle some subjects in your movies that push the edge. Is there any subject that you would consider over the edge and one you just wouldn’t touch?

Luis Cypher I have done molestation because it’s real life, I’ve done murder, incest because people can relate to them or some people get off on them. I have done a lot of funny stuff to make people laugh. If you can cum when you’re laughing, that’s pretty fun. Stuff I would not touch? Pushing a girl so far that it injures her like in the those "Rough Sex" movies. I wouldn’t go near that. I know there is a market for it and I respect that market. Just because I won’t go near it, doesn’t mean I don’t understand it. Lizzy Borden makes some of the most abusive movies ever made and she’s a she. She knows the trend a makes amazingly brutal flicks. I do the teen line here, but truly, I like glammed up women. I understand the teen urges and want to tear up a tight little pussy. That’s a great idea. Stuff I wouldn’t touch? Give me an example.

Roger T. Pipe Well, Rob and Zupko both hit on religion hard.

Luis Cypher I am totally against organized religion. I grew up a southern Baptist and was in a circle for friends where people in the youth group were molested by a pastor. He’s still in jail for that. I see the giant contradiction between the way religion is told to act and the way religion really acts. The same goes for the Catholic Church and every religion. I would shoot at religion without a fucking doubt. My brother is a youth pastor in Pasadena, Texas, is as southern Baptist as they get. He speaks in tongues, feels he has the hands of Christ to save you. I’ve had really horrible injuries in my life and he laid his hand on my knees and ankles and I am still a sore mother fucker. Do I care about people and their religious beliefs? No. I’m the type of person who believes in what he can see. So religion is not an off subject for me. I’ve done it. I won’t go out of my way to attack a certain religion, but they are all in the danger zone when I make a movie.

Roger T. Pipe What about rape? Not as a plot device, but as a sex scene.

Luis Cypher As a plot device I could do it. I could set it up where a guy breaks in and takes her and she gives in and enjoys it. To have her fighting the whole way through, no way.

Roger T. Pipe That would be a line?

Luis Cypher That would be a line. I’m not going to watch a woman struggle and be abused. Every woman is someone’s daughter and you wouldn't want your daughter to be treated that way. Now, if that’s a sexual fantasy or preference for a woman, fine.

Roger T. Pipe Anything you want to add?

Luis Cypher I would want to clear up some misconceptions. In spite of the things I’ve written, I’m not out to beat everyone up. I’m not a thug and a skinhead from the streets. Maybe when I was a kid and maybe that’s tattooed on me and I can’t get rid of that. Am I that way now? No. Watch my movies, there is no racial boundaries. If anyone reads things and thinks I’m a racist, no. I’m a caring person, I love my friends. If you can say anything about me, it’s that I hate everybody, I don’t pick out groups to hate. I keep my friends close and my enemies closer. That way I am always looking right at them. My wife is the sweetest person in the world. We love Rob, we love Extreme, we love Tom. I look at Tom as what porn should be. He makes porn that everyone should strive to make. Tom Byron is the King of this industry. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if my wife likes fucking Tom Byron more than she likes fucking me. I could be a little jealous, but Tommy’s a good friend to me. Rob is a great person, other than my father and wife, there is no one I respect more than him. Anyone who has bad things to say about Rob doesn’t know him. A final word, check out "Sole Survivor" out in October and pull for "Last Breath" for movie of the year.

Roger T. Pipe Any final words?

Luis Cypher I truly care about the fans, I care about my wife and I truly care about this industry. That’s it. P.S-Everyone needs to fear youth in this business! Year 2000 sets the arrival for the king of all players in this business. Derek Newblood is Extremes only in-house camera man. Under all the great minds at Extreme he has put together his own scheme to dominate this industry. Be afraid be very afraid! Check out anything with his name on it!

Roger T. Pipe Great thank you.

Luis Cypher Wait, one more thing. I also want to tell the people out there that I truly respect Rog for his ability to come down interview me. After everything I’ve said, I’m sure there were some misconceptions about how this was going to go.

Roger T. Pipe Any advice for my interview with Zupko?

Luis Cypher Yeah. Brace for the laugh. If he starts to laugh, pull the recorder away or it may break. He’s a truly disturbed man!

Roger T. Pipe Thanks.
