Roger T. Pipe OK, he did say that he didn’t feel ready to win an award as a director, so he must be saying that you should win.
Lex Either way, it’s a team effort, it’s an Anabolic thing.
Mike John That goes for all of us. Lex talked about having access to great talent and great shooters. I have access to great talent and that makes it easy for me to shoot what I want to shoot. We shoot these really tightly. We shoot maybe forty five minutes and get thirty five minutes worth of tape. There isn’t a lot of time to for screwing around. If I didn’t have Lex and Everhard, then I would be screwed.
Roger T. Pipe How many nominations did you manage this year?
Mike John I honestly don’t know. They were all for Up Your Ass.
Lex UYA is up for anal themed series, and UYA 18 has a couple of nominations.
Roger T. Pipe And I said before we started rolling tape that that is one of my favorite tapes of the year. It’s rock solid.
Mike John It just happened to come together. The cast was great. Once I got going with that, I was really pleased with the cast.
Roger T. Pipe What other lines are you doing?
Mike John For Anabolic I have Up Your Ass, Oral Consumption and I took over the Nice Rack line when Vince left. For Diabolic, I have Panochitas, Perverted Point of View, Down the Hatch, Cream of the Crop and Lewd Conduct.
Roger T. Pipe That’s a lot of work.
Mike John I am actually going to drop Oral Consumption.
Roger T. Pipe How come?
Mike John When Vince left, that left a big hole and I had to fill a lot of those lines. He is not a guy you can just easily replace. To me, Vince and Jules Jordan are the two best shooters outside of our company, in the business. They are the only two guys who are thinking one hundred percent of the time when their camera is on. I look at other people’s stuff and sometimes I wonder what they were thinking. When I watch Vince’s stuff, you can just tell that he is locked in. I decided to drop Oral Consumption and replace that with Lewd Conduct and Nice Rack. That way these movies are being shot on the same level.
Roger T. Pipe I may be going out on a limb here, but I would have to guess that Perverted Point of View is your favorite.
Mike John It’s special to me and I think you can guess why.
Roger T. Pipe Panochitas was your first series though, right?
Mike John Yes, that was the first.
Roger T. Pipe Last time we interviewed, that was all you had with your name on it and you’ve certainly grown a great deal. Now you’re not only directing, but have come out in front of the camera as well.
Mike John In front of the camera, but from behind.
Roger T. Pipe Where did you get such a brilliant idea?
Mike John I had to pay Greg at Diabolic a lot of money to let me shoot the POV movies. It’s a pretty basic idea. I have a penis, there are pretty girls. I want my penis to go into their mouths, so how do I make that happen?
Roger T. Pipe I have always thought that you should re-name that series, “Every Guy’s Fantasy.”
Mike John I snuck a few scenes like that into my other movies. I did one in the first Panochitas and then in the Down the Hatch movies as well. POV stuff has always been my thing. As a stroker, I always loved that stuff. I used to love Rodney’s work. Even if the girls weren’t the best looking, the POV always worked for me. POV is as close to the real thing as you can get. I started putting POV BJ’s into Down the Hatch because if feels great and also for a little variety. That way we could get a little extra with the girl. She would do these power fuck scenes where she is working with three big studs and then try something with me. For me, watching Lex, Everhard and Jon Dough tear through a girl is more of a sporting event. I don’t know if the average guy can see himself stepping into that circle. If you get her in a POV BJ scene as well, you get both sides of the mix. We got good feedback on this part of the movies, so Greg let me start that line. It’s working out well and I’m enjoying it.
Roger T. Pipe You brought Everhard in on POV 2 right?
Mike John Yes and in 3 he did Kimberly, Shyla and Gauge.
Roger T. Pipe How could you let someone else come in and take that fun away?
Mike John I was out of town for two months.
Roger T. Pipe You’re out of your mind.
Mike John I called Gauge one night to cast her and I’d had a few beers. I think I scared her off a little, but she was fine with Everhard.
Roger T. Pipe Admit it, you go through the files of talent and make a checklist. I want her and her and her...
Mike John (He laughs) Of course and I make sure and tell them that it will do wonders for their career.
Roger T. Pipe You’re still shooting the Panochitas stuff. Is it getting harder to find girls for that line than it used to be?
Mike John I have a good connection down there. It’s always tough though. On the last trip, I took Lex and Erik. They are a party people so you have to do the party thing. Drinking and driving is a national pastime. We would meet these girls in clubs, they would get tested and then we would see them in the daylight and it wasn’t always pretty. It’s like a train wreck from the minute I leave home. Whenever I hold a box in my hand on one of those I am amazed.
Roger T. Pipe There must be some interesting stories though.
Mike John Oh yeah. On the last one, we went out to this island in this national park. There were three boatloads of people. The girls were drinking vodka and getting crazy. We were out in the hot sun all day, no food, just liquor. Everhard does a scene in the morning and another one in the afternoon. It’s the end of the day and he’s already done two scenes for me. The sun is going down on his third scene. We were ready for the pop and I wanted to do it by the edge of the water. I had shot the whole scene on manual exposure because we were in the bright sunlight. The shot was all set up and at the last minute the girl pops up so I had to adjust my shot. Now I’m shooting out over the ocean and it goes completely white. Erik pops and I missed it. It was washed out. Everhard looks at me and I he knew what happened. He says, “don’t worry” and starts rubbing out another one. A few minutes later, he shoots a second load and I’m on pause. I figure, he’s already done four so I’m stomping around pissed off. I just blew a couple thousand bucks. He just looks at me and says “bring me my lube, don’t worry.” A few minutes later, he lays out his third load of the scene. That’s my Erik Everhard story.
Roger T. Pipe That should be a new test. If you want to shoot for Anabolic you have to be able to shoot three loads at the end of a long day.
Mike John I am such a picky shooter these days. If I can’t get Everhard or Lex or Jon, then I don’t want to shoot.
Roger T. Pipe It must be nice to know that the talent end is taken care of.
Mike John I couldn’t do this without these guys.
Roger T. Pipe What about all these award nominations?
Mike John They are nice, but you know I honestly care more about things like what you have going. You have the Rog Awards and the stuff Den does with www.cavr.com and those are what the fans really like. I don’t want to take away from what AVN is doing, but they are a little jaded at time. People voting in your poll and what not is voting with one hand on his dick and that’s the porn I always wanted to make.
Roger T. Pipe Now that you’ve shot with quite a few girls, are there any who stand out as the hottest?
Mike John Justine Romee is awesome, but there are so many.
Roger T. Pipe What about Sierra?
Mike John Sierra, ohhhhhh.
Roger T. Pipe That was from Perverted POV 2 right?
Mike John Sierra and I got along really well. She is fantastic and we just had a blast. She and Justine have this attitude on set and they are just there to play. Justine made me pop four times.
Roger T. Pipe I have to ask you, since I plan to make her my next wife, how was Aurora Snow?
Mike John Aurora Snow is fantastic. I like her.
Lex I’m not a big Aurora Snow fan.
Roger T. Pipe Yeah, but you also got Leanni Lei, so I’m not talking to you right now.
Lex I’m not a big Leanni Lei fan either.
Mike John Lex likes the big girls.
Roger T. Pipe Who do you really like Lex?
Lex Who do I like? Jewel De’Nyle, Alexandra Quinn.
Roger T. Pipe Since we brought her name up, let’s say for the record that Alex has flaked on interviews even more often than Lex has. I had to drive all the way to her house only to have her stand me up.
Mike I would like to put her in an upcoming Perverted POV movie.
Roger T. Pipe Back to Aurora since Mike likes her. She looks great.
Mike John She looks great and she is even better than she looks.
Roger T. Pipe I hate you. Kahn Tusion started Oral Consumption. What ever happened to that guy?
Mike John He’s around. In fact, I think he’s going to be back fairly soon.
Roger T. Pipe Is he going to bring back Rough Sex?
Mike John No way. That one is done.

Roger T. Pipe Did you do scenes in those Lex?
Lex No. That is so very much not my thing. I didn’t want to take part. It’s just not sexy.
Roger T. Pipe What about you Mike?
Mike John I shot camera on those, but they just aren’t my thing either. Kahn is into the psychological end of it. He wants the girl to go away having had a bad time and I want her to go away having had a great time.
Roger T. Pipe The Oral Consumption movies are now more about sex and less about humiliation.
Mike John It was a hard series for me to take over because I had never even considered sticking my foot into a girl’s mouth. Rim is not my thing either. I don’t like shooting guys’ asses.
Roger T. Pipe It’s one of those things that may feel great, but looks like hell on video. It may be great to have a chick suck your toes, but the last thing I need to see on my TV are Marcus’ fungus covered feet. (Mike and Lex both laugh so hard the waitress stops and stares.)
Mike John I was actually shooting a girl the other day who is studying to be a dermatologist. She took a look at his feet and started describing what kind of fungus it was and then just gobbles them up.
Roger T. Pipe Did you leave that in?
Mike John We had to.
Roger T. Pipe Good because we all want to know what’s up with his toes. This is a clean looking guy, but those feet are nasty.
Mike We all wonder what went wrong there.
Roger T. Pipe So you would much rather shoot something that you like?
Mike I have lines that are all mine and others that I have taken over and I end up molding it more towards what I think is hot. Down the Hatch is mine and I love swallowing. When I took over UYA, it wasn’t really my bag, but I worked it slowly to something I like. I still don’t plug it in to stroke, because to me it’s a sporting event. I’m a regular guy and this is beyond regular. Down the Hatch is more of my own personal drive there.
Roger T. Pipe Near the end, Sean was kind of taking UYA in a different direction which is cool, but it wasn’t really a fit with the Anabolic style.
Mike John It’s not that easy to take over a series. Porno is very personalized and I’m lucky to shoot the kind of stuff I like. If you get an idea and run with it, then you’re lucky. I like that Anabolic and Diabolic demand title integrity. Take Bring Um Young for example, those are all teenagers. There are a million teen lines, but only one that actually stars only girls who are eighteen and nineteen. We do the same thing with my swallowing stuff. A lot of lines are supposed to feature swallowing, mine actually has swallowing.
Roger T. Pipe Are you working on any new lines?
Mike John I wouldn’t have time to even begin to think of anything new right now.
Roger T. Pipe What about the Nice Rack line?
Mike John You know, that’s something that I loved when Vince started it. It’s a great line.
Roger T. Pipe It seems a bit easier these days to find American girls with real tits. When Vince started, he had to go to Europe, but you have more options now.
Mike Nice Rack is a series that doesn’t have a set release schedule. It’s like Cream of the Crop. When it’s done, it’s done. That allows us to be picky and not worry about a street date. We can take the girls as they come and keep the series solid.
Roger T. Pipe Do you still shoot camera for other lines?
Mike John Lately, Everhard and Lex have been stepping up to do a lot of those. I still do some, but I am shooting so much of my own stuff, that it’s hard. I shoot for Lex and Erik or for Chris when they aren’t available to shoot.
Roger T. Pipe They all know that when they hand you the camera, they are going to get great stuff.
Mike John We’re a very tight team and we know what to expect from each other.
Roger T. Pipe Another guy who is a constant is your editor. Is it just one guy doing all the editing now?
Mike John Yes, one guy does all of it.
Roger T. Pipe I need to mention his name because he’s always wondering why I never mention his editing. So Curt, here it is, your five minutes of fame begins right now.
Mike John Curt really taught me so much. He has a terrible job for anyone looking for praise. I good editor doesn’t even get mentioned if he is doing his job.
Roger T. Pipe I’ve always told him that the highest praise I can give an editor on a stroke movie is to not mention the editing. So many people manage to fuck up things and that’s just a mess.
Mike That’s true, and he’s really shaped the way we shoot. He taught me a lot of the moves that I take for granted now. A lot of our edits are based on camera moves. There is not one cut in a movie that he hasn’t thought about. Whether it’s an eye movement from a girl or a camera movie or something she said, he makes his cuts for a reason. It’s not just five minutes of this, three minutes of that and random cutting. For a guy who chops miles of video day in and day out, that’s an amazing thing.
Roger T. Pipe He deserves a lot of credit.
Mike Think of it this way. There is not a single tape that Anabolic or Diabolic put out that he doesn’t have his hands on. Think about that volume and how he maintains the quality. He manages to give each line its own individual flavor while still keeping the look that people expect from Anabolic.
Roger T. Pipe A lot of directors complain that they don’t have input in their editing or that there is no continuity.
Mike John That must suck. I sit in on the editing of my stuff and I’ve learned a lot about how to shoot from watching him. I also know that with Curt editing it, it’s going to look fantastic. It would be hell to not have continuity in who cuts my stuff. If I didn’t trust the guy cutting it, I would do it all in camera and not give him any options.
Lex If I can chime in for a moment. One thing about Curt that you have to keep in mind is that he is such a key to our success. I was referring earlier to Anabolic/Diabolic as a team, much like the Lakers. There is no weak link in a successful organization. It takes everyone working at the highest possible caliber. When Curt is in the editing bay there are no mistakes being made. He knows that he has to be just as good at his job as I am at mine or Mike is at his.
Mike John Curt shapes all of our stuff.
Lex And he never lets us look bad.
Mike When I first started, I did camera on a World Sex Tour movie. When we got back, I asked Curt if I could sit in on the editing and I learned a lot. In a way, editing is a mistake removal session so if you sit in on enough editing and see bad camera moves removed enough times, you stop making those bad camera moves.
Roger T. Pipe They are about to close the restaurant, so I’m going to ask you and Lex a final question. You’re out on the road, it’s late at night and you don’t have an Anabolic or Diabolic tape to watch. What do you put in the VCR to jerk off to?
Mike I would try to find an old Rodney tape with a lot of POV in it, something like that.
Lex I would have to say something from Evil Angel because that is the other company that produces the kind of hardcore that is on par with what we are doing. I specifically like watching European Evil Angel because I don’t know any of the girls or know any of the guys.
Roger T. Pipe OK, anything else?
Mike John Yes. All girls who want to make it in porn or be famous in any way, should do Perverted Point of View.
