a.k.a. Suzie Randall
Widely acknowledged as one of the world's leading erotic photographers, for over twenty-five years Suze Randall had been creating brilliant, stylish portraits that glorify the sensuality of her models.
While she was working as a fashion model in Europe during the early 1970's, she attracted press attention with her edgy, erotic portraits of her fellow models. In 1975 Playboy's Hugh Hefner was so struck by her photographs of a lovely Norwegian model, that he flew both model and photographer to Los Angeles.
For the next two years Suze worked as a staff photographer for Playboy under the supervision of the magazine's brilliant West Coast editor Marilyn Grabowski. “She was tough and demanding,” Suze recalls, “but since I was the only female photographer on staff she took me under her wing and influenced my sense of style as far as costume and sets were concerned.”
Larry Flynt's Hustler, where Suze worked as a staff photographer between 1977 and 1979, was another early influence on her work. She attributes the vividness and clarity that are such outstanding features of her photographic technique to her three years in “boot camp” as she refers to her Hustler years. “Larry wouldn't allow any of his photographers to shoot with diffusion, he wanted the viewer to see every pore in the model's skin. That made it a challenge to hide flaws that almost every girls has. “I had to learn how to do it with posing and lighting.”
She now works freelance shooting for top adult magazines such as Penthouse. Bob Guccione, founder and CEO of Penthouse magazine, gives photographers the artistic freedom to shoot whatever they want. In Suze's case, that meant beautiful women in erotic settings.
Today America's most prolific photographer of artistic erotica who works mostly out of her studio in West Los Angeles, Suze has shot the prestigious British Lamb's Navy Rum calendar, has done album covers for recording artist such as Peter Hook (New Order), and Robert Palmer, and a music video for Capitol Records.
She has appeared on numerous radio and television shows including Tom Snyder (USA), Terry Wogan (Britain), Mike Walsh (Australia), MNET (S. Africa), and Warren Olney (KCRW Los Angeles), the E! Channel, Channel 5 (UK) and the Arts & Entertainment Channel (April 19, 2004). Her interview on Eye On LA has been one of ABC's most frequently rerun segments. She has been profiled in Vanity Fair, and the prestigious photographic trade magazine Photo District News. On February 8, 2004 she appeared (with photograph) in the New York Times.
Her personal website www.suze.net has a vast library of her finest work that features over 90,000 of her images. The site won Best Photography Site at the AVN awards in Las Vegas in January, 2000.
Her highly successful video website www.suzevideo.com offers the largest download display rate on the Internet (2000K/sec). In addition to its 10-30 minute erotic “mini features” it offers documentary footage of Suze shooting layouts as well as in depth interviews with her models.
