Despite being well aware of Andrew Blake’s special brand of pornography for many years, this is the first full feature of his that I have ever watched. Undoubtedly I will mention many things that are well known and obvious to people who are acquainted with his work although for myself and perhaps for a few unfamiliar fans it’s important to clarify those things.
No doubt that the main question to answer is, Is this title any good? I certainly enjoyed it and I look forward to seeing several of Blake’s features in the future. The style is very particular and it isn’t going to suit everyone. Some fans will regard it as too art house or not hardcore enough. Others will appreciate it's brand.
Blake goes for a less is more approach, often cutting away at moments which are momentous. He is suggestive rather than seeking a conclusion to the desire or an answer to the mystery. He is meditative. In general, I am all for that sort of thing but I would argue that he doesn’t succeed on this level simply because the lavish elitism which is inherent, overbears the deeper sexual expression. We are left with porno that can compare with upscale yuppie nightclubs in rather that while is something that remains highly pleasurable to our base nature, well rounded experience will tell you not to scratch the surface as there is not much here for the soul.
The women are dressed in sophisticated European fashion with lavish, expensive looking jewelery. The sets are plush, extravagant, elite, adorned by classical art in a hidden hillside mansion. The direction seeks to be artistic, poetic, beautiful, a tribute to the more refined elements of our sexual nature and to women in general. Most notably, the woman are beautiful.
Former penthouse pet of 1992, Dahlia Grey (now known as Jami Dion) is the centerpiece girl for this title as she has been in probably more of Andrew Blake’s flicks than any other female talent. She does keep my interest and does figure well has the main character although she is far from the most beautiful or sexual girl I have seen in the industry. Her figure is fine with some finely designed curves and natural medium sized breasts. Her ethnicity seems to descend from Venezuelan or Colombian region or somewhere nearby based upon her looks. In “Wet” she is blindfolded, put on a dog collar, has her tits slapped and pinched all in a day’s work.
But for me, it’s the supporting cast which give this film it’s strength. In Anita Blonde, we have one of the greatest porn stars in history. Her superb looks, perfect breasts and most of all her rare sexual charm and talent give great credibility to an often misunderstood industry. The other treat is Avalon, a Germanic beauty of rare, refined proportion in looks, body and manner. The final female cast member unfortunately was a let down (Diana DeMorice). Her breasts looked fake, she has a butt that resembles a fridge and her ditsy bottle blonde persona didn’t excite me. Vince Vouyer is the male cast member who gets a few turns with Anita.
All in all, I think it is worth a look. If you don’t like what you’ve seen from Blake in the past then forget it as Blake’s films have little variation especially for the sceptics. 6 out of 10.
