Starring: "Mafioso" delivers the kind of full-bodied script, solid production values, and performances we used to see--dare I say it?--during the old Golden Age. Shanna McCullough and Herschel Savage must have felt at home. As you can guess from the title, we're in Soprano territory with Savage as a mob boss whose life is unraveling. Daughter Sydnee Steele is bitter over her father's cold shoulder, wife McCullough is humping "loyal" associate Tony Tedeschi, and son James Bonn (one of out most underrated actors) sets up a score that attracts the feds. Oh, and there's sex too.
Top notch. You can see where Michael Raven spent the money and how much time went into it. The script, though far from original, gives the actors motives and motivations, though what unfolds will not surprise you.
While the sex is fairly straight, there are several hot moments. With Sydnee Steele, Shanna and April Summers on board, how could this not be erotic?
Sydnee does one of the best scenes with Erik Everhard that mixes her lust with her animousity towards her parents. And Shanna proves she's getting better with age letting her sexual frustrations explode all over Tony Tedeschi. James Bonn vents his steam in a bathroom fuck with April Summers that turns into another memorable scene.
The script, especially since it plays such a key role in this film, could have used a rewrite.
But why quibble. A 9.
