Starring: Though she wasn't around long, Barbii was a cute, innocent-looking blonde perfect for the roles Nikki Charm once played. Though cliched from beginning to end, "Barbii From Rags to Riches" is the perfect star vehicle for her persona. In the film, Barbii plays the innocent bumpkin who heads for the oppotunities of California but, predictably, finds herself alone and put upon by lecherous pimp Ray Victory. With new pals like hooker Laurel Canyon to guide her, Barbii soon learns the trade and, as only happens in pornland, loves her work.
It helps immensely that Barbii and company play the scenes just right. As her first customer, Max Delong and Barbii share a sweet, passionate hump that rings true. The plot may be familiar, but the characters have heart.
Barbii's playful seduction of horny politician Randy West is a standout, far more erotic than you'll find in a dozen Rodney Moore specials. It seems West collects hookers (I never said this was realistic), which sets up the farfetched climax.
The emphasis on character. yes, I know, it's not what raincoaters want. But it's sure a relief after hours of gonzo butt-banging.
The story is weighed down by cliches.
A 7 for Barbii, who came and went too soon.
