The Philogynist's Rating:

Starring: Barbara Dare, April West, Debi Diamond (not included) and Jacqueline (Claire Tyler). The acting was fairly decent, especially by Miss Dare. April did a commendable job with a much more difficult part. The two play women in love but Barbara is unwillingly to make a total commitment. She also has never informed her parents of her sapphic ways and they are planning a weekend visit. So, April begrudgingly gets her platonic musician friend (played by Brett True) to play Barbara's boyfriend of which she has told her parents about. Naturally, this being porn, the two have an affair. Brett True's character is an irksome, no-talent musician who spouts philosophical tripe to show how cool he's supposed to be. He was like a cross between a fey Bob Dylan, a retarded Aesop and that other guy from Wham, only with less musical skills. He also nearly sleepwalked through his performance. Again, I guess he was too cool to ever be animated.

Even earlier Vivid films did well in this department, and this is no exception, nor anything exceptional. Paul Thomas is a better director than screenplay writer. (And he shouldn't really take that as a compliment. )

The opening segment with Barbara and April was truly hot. I'd give it a definite 10. They were so active, sexy and passionate that you really were given the pleasurable illusion of watching two women in love. The next scene was a boring hetero outing with Jacqueline and Eric Price, the man who couldn't keep either Paula Price or Jill Kelly happy. April and Debi have a nice go-around on a pool table, but it can't hold a candle to the first lez encounter. After that, Barbara and the annoyingly androgynous Brett get it on. Barbara Dare is one of the sexiest and most enjoyable lesbian lovers in the history of porn, a woman who truly prefers women. Seeing the incomparable Miss Dare in a hetero scene is a waste of celluloid. (I always wanted to point that out. ) And finally, the threeway ensues with the leads as Barbara shifts back and forth from April and Brett, who have no interaction with one another.

The copout ending. Instead of making a decision, Barbara gets tohave both lovers and unlike a legitimate threeway relationship, there is no physical intimacy between April (a confessed dyke) and Brett. It's kind of like a reversed, bisexual Mormon marriage. I also did not enjoy Paul Thomas using a porn film for his vehicle to preach about social acceptance and self-awareness through bisexuality. I do not watch porn, or enjoy any form of entertaiment, so somebody else can tell me their political, social or religious beliefs. We all have a basic understanding of things that would help society better relate and the rest is nothing but to teach his own. So, to Paul Thomas a. k. a screewriter supreme, bite me!
