Starring: This is one of the many gems from the so-called Golden Age frequently overshadowed by classics like "Amanda by Night" and "Insatiable. " Directed by Henri Pachard and produced by the legendary David Friedman, it takes yet another look behind the scenes of the porn industry. But by focusing on two characters warring porn icons John Leslie and Jesie St. James, Pachard delivers a superbly acted frothy connection that hits all the right holes.
Shot like a low budget movie, Friedman's perceptive story seems drawn from his years churning out low-rent exploitation. There's not a false note anywhere. Pachard wisely fleshes out the cast with strong supporting players Colleen Brennan, Angel, and Herschel Savage.
Anytime Jesie sinks her teeth into role she finds its sensuous heart. Here, her animosity toward co-star Leslie is a cover for the attraction that's built within her from years of humping on-screen. It leads to furious pairings between the two that are electric.
The light tone. Angel, hired to replace St. James, proves herself surprisingly agile at comedy, and Colleen Brennan, always fun, and Savage (who demonstrated their chemistry in the underrated "Getting Personal")are obviously having a blast together. But the entire film rides on Leslie and Jesie who have some of their hardest and hottest sex scenes since "Talk Dirty to Me. "
