James Avalon makes movies for porn critics, not porn fans. He makes high production value movies where the look, music and editing are clearly more important than the sex. In short, his movies are all about style over substance. They aren't for jerking off, they aren't even good foreplay for couples, but serve as highlight reel material for his mainstream aspirations. Before this starts to sound like a personal rant, Avalon isn't the only director in porn to make movies like this. There is a whole class of award winning directors who seem to think that most of their audience can't get enough soft focus, slow motion, condoms and elevator music. Hey, I was a film major in college, I'm impressed by good film making and love a nicely edited piece of video, but I can't understand why a nicely made feature HAS to have terrible, cold, soft-core, lame, limp sex. There, rant over, let me get to the movie at hand. Les Vampyres 2 is the follow up to Avalon's critically acclaimed original. It borrows from a classic erotic theme, the blood sucking undead. (One could argue that Stoker's Dracula is one of the greatest erotic novels ever written.) He's got a nice looking cast of women, but adding to my trepidation is the fact that only two guys are listed. I would imagine we are in for a whole lot of veggie action. (There are more guys in the movie, just not listed in the credits.)

Our movie begins with Misty Rain finding Joel Lawrence's body tossed aside for dead. We move immediately to a flashback of Lawrence enjoying the 1600's with Ava Vincent and Syren. With smoke filling the room and lightening flashing in the background, they share wine and passionate kisses. Other than an overall grainy look and the dim lighting, this is a pretty straight forward scene which pleases me greatly. They move too quickly through a blowjob and then somehow find a latex condom to use as Joel pounds into Ava. I wouldn't mind seeing more light on this scene, but Joel and Syren have good energy as he fucks her. The girls share his load and then devour more bodily fluids when the transform into creatures of the night.

His death angers his true love and she plots and asks to become one of the undead herself. Misty knows their secrets and threatens to expose the vamps if she isn't turned into one. She must bring a man for the ceremony and chooses Mark Davis. To prove he is virile, Misty must suck his cock to full size and fuck him. Again, the lightening is flashing in the background, but Mark pounds away on Misty's thin frame from behind. The energy level is pretty good here even if the lighting and the music aren't exactly perfect for stroke material. He shoots his load all over her face, helping Misty prove her loyalty.

Now that she is a vampire, Misty uses her new powers to feed Joel. Her undead blood brings him back to life as a vamp. They escape together, but it's clear they will be hunted. Flash forward to the present where Joel isn't actually dead. He is in trouble though, for fucking up some job he was supposed to do for Misty. Hungry, Joel and Misty go out in search of food. They find it quickly enough and work the magical vampire seduction. Joel sits with Katja Kean, letting her lick her way down his chest. Misty also has some company and has him licking away on her pussy. Katja gives a nice looking blowjob, though this scene has just a hint of glow to it. At least it's brighter than the first two and we get some great looking eye contact from the beautiful blonde. Misty is getting it on nearby, being fucked from behind by her new guy. Both women get it standing up with Katja providing the eye candy and Misty providing more heat. They both show equal eagerness when it's time to eat up creamy cum fired at their faces.

After devouring her prey, Misty changes into Nikita Denise so she can to after the other vampires and complete her revenge. This leads them right into an intense one on one encounter. We're back to the fucked up low light as Nikita deep throats like a champ. The whole scene has an orange tint to it which is really a shame. Nikita is hot in this scene, fucking like mad and jerking a big load all over her tongue, letting it spill onto her chin and tits.

They set out in search of the two evil vampire bitches, Syren and Ava. The girls have picked up a third, Wendi Knight and are busy with Ian Daniels and John Decker. Wendi watches as the other two girls suck some dick. Watching her finger herself is every bit as hot as watching the guys slam into their undead girlfriends. The sex in this scene looks good, but the overdubbed sound of metal clanking just doesn't measure up to what would have been coming out of the girls' mouths. It's not a bad scene, but the style is starting to kill off the sexual stroke value.

This shift in style becomes more pronounced as we follow the two main vamps into the club scene. Syren and Ava meet up with Nikita and Holly in the club, have a little tense dialog scene and end up in bed together. (The bad vamps don't recognize these two chicks as their enemies.) This four way scene is exactly what I talked about in the open. It's a wonderful example of how porn can be nicely edited, lit artistically and have every ounce of sexual heat drained from it all the same time. Their lame sex scene ends with a brutal struggle for life and death and it looks like a pretty cool end to the movie. Instead of ending here, there is a final scene between of the surviving vamps (I won't give it away) and a new couple. This scene is exactly as I described in the open and ends up finishing the movie on a down note sexually.

OK, after a bit of a rant in the open I was all set to take much of what I said back in the close. The first few scenes of the movie are actually pretty good. They are feature scenes without question, but have some heat and aren't so over produced as to be totally useless. Ava, Syren and Joel kicks things off with a pretty nice three way and Misty follows that up by fucking Davis with a lot of energy. After this strong start and with a plot that is worth watching, the movie begins to come apart at the seams. The scenes become the sort of Vaseline looking slop that just kills heat and makes me wonder what guys like Avalon are thinking. The plot stays interesting, but the sex goes from good to terrible by the end and I can't help but be disappointed in it. At least there are a couple of hot scenes to go along with a decent script, high production values and all of the stuff that make critics swoon. Go ahead and pencil in some award nominations and at least be happy that I liked the first half of this one.
