Starring: "Sex Boat" was a sensation when first released in 1980, and not just because it was a takeoff on the popular "Loveboat" TV series. During the '70s, porn actresses were not always noted for world-class beauty. Producers/directors Svetlana and David I. Frazer set out to make hardcore films that would feature the loveliest men's magazine models of the day, and they succeeded bigtime in films like this one. The cast list includes several names that apparently were invented for one use only, but among the women in "Sexboat" who went on to further fame in hardcore were Kelly Nichols, Kandy Barbour, Cody Nicole, Loni Sanders, Hillary Summers, Little Oral Annie, Nicole Black, Pam Jennings, and Sylvia Benedict. There are numerous other women who do not perform sexually but provide some exceptional female scenery. Robert "Turk" Lyon and a youthful Randy West are the featured guys, and veteran studs Mike Ranger, Kevin James, and R. J. Reynolds also perform. The women aren't asked to do much more than be beautiful and act horny, but Turk and Randy occasionally have their funny moments.

They used a real passenger liner for this one, which adds greatly to the atmosphere and interest despite the artificial look of certain sets. The cinematography, editing, and sound are above average.

By today's standards, "Sex Boat" is only a littler warmer than luke, overall, but it has some moments that will grow some wood, particularly among fans of the featured ladies. One of the hottest scenes takes place right off the bat: Loni Sanders arrives home to be confronted by husband Kevin James, who's discovered that she's been balling Mike Ranger. In fact, Mike's there too, and Kevin forces him and Loni to get it on right there in the living room, as he angrily watches. Loni takes a nice facial from Mike; Kevin then drags her poolside, ties her up, and forces her to watch as he gets it on with cute blonde and a very cute redhead. Thoroughly enjoyable for those into power games. Kevin's getting ready to leave for a long business trip, so he arranges to send Loni on a six-week cruise aboard a liner with an all-female crew and passenger list -- no dicks, in other words. Rich young thing Sylvia Benedict is being sent on the same cruise by her bossy aunt; on their way to the ship, Sylvia masturbates in the back seat of her limo, much to the delight of Turk, the driver. Hearing talk of the all-female cruise, he convinces buddy Randy to join him in stowing away on the ship full of rich, horny women. Donning drag disguises, the "boys" go aboard and find a female "dormitory," where Randy gets it on with Terri Dolan (Terri Hannon), while Turk enjoys the favors of both girlish Hillary Summers and a very nice brunette. Hillary's aggressiveness is especially pleasing here. The next morning, after sleeping in a lifeboat, the boys observe crew members Kelly Nichols and Dana Dennis swabbing the deck, then tongue-swabbing each other in a very hot outdoor scene. By now the boys' presence aboard ship is known and the crew is on the lookout, including purser Kandy Barbour. The boys find her alone in a hot tub and are treated to Kandy's enthusiastic mouth around their canes. At a ship's party that night, buxom Pam Jennings pulls Turk under a table and treats him to a hot suck/fuck session. Randy, however, has no luck with the girls, gets drunk, exposes himself, and is hauled off to the brig. Trying to escape a gaggle of horny women, Turk finds himself trapped by five hotties, including Kelly, Dana, Renee La Paz, Linda Reeves, and another one of those sweet brunettes. Turk is treated to a reverse gangbang, performing yeoman service for all five ladies. Kelly is the standout here. Turk and the girls then learn of a plot to kidnap Sylvia. With the collusion of the captain (Cody Nicole), a gang of comic-opera pirates tries to take over the ship, raping half the women in the process. (These are comic porn rapes -- nothing really brutal, and of course, the women really get into it. ) Nicole Black is accosted by a pirate in the engine room, while Oral Annie gets rogered jollily by a burly buccaneer. Even the captain gets a hot ride from the head pirate (R. J. Reynolds) on her own bridge. Of course, Turk and Randy, in the best Hope and Crosby style, turn the tables, subdue the pirates, and save the day. The film ends with a sweet, romantic fuck.

The huge female cast is a treat, although the sheer size prevents any of them from having much screen time. Those who really want a big dose of Kelly, Kandy, Cody, Oral Annie, etc. , would be better served seeking out films in which they have multiple scenes.

Some of the sex scenes are intercut and edited very choppily, no doubt to move the story along. Although the large cast is pleasing, it also means that there's less emphasis on the eroticism of the individual performers.

"Sex Boat" is a bit dated, although it could stand today as a good hardcore comedy/couples flick. Unfortunately, many women are not going to appreciate either the opening Loni/Kevin powerplay scenes or the comic rape sequences. Prepare your mate accordingly. Still, it's fun to see this many gorgeous women going to it in one flick, and there are a couple of genuine laughs from Turk's and Randy's drag routine. RATING: 7
