It is not often that I get to review a movie that truly revolutionized porn as we know it. That statement has never been more true than it is when one looks at porn before and after John Stagliano's “Adventures of Buttman.” Before this movie, porn was a vast wasteland of horrible 'features'. Everyone felt the need to tell a story even if their heart wasn't in it. We were over run with poorly shot videos that featured plumbers, pizza delivery boys and other tissue-paper thin plots. All of the sex scenes were in the eight to ten minute range and were literally bad clones of one another. Stagliano took the camera off the tripod, slung it over his shoulder and literally shattered the mold forever. He shot a movie that was totally different in every way. The sex was shot differently, the focus on women's asses was totally new and the gonzo revolution was born. (It would later be killed by simple couch-sex movies, but for not let's just focus on one industry-wide change at a time.)

The early Buttman movies focused on female backsides (not anal, that would come later) and the voyeuristic nature of sex. Both of these aspects are in display in the opening scene. Jamie Gillis is out trolling the streets when he is mugged in an alley. Tianna saves him and then teases Jamie in the dark. They are chased away, but end up back at her place. This newly cut version of the first gonzo classic makes a brilliant DVD. Though perhaps not as brilliant as later Buttman movies, the original is still a must-own for any serious porn fan. The movie that changed porn forever looks great even 15 years later. When you look at it, you can see the seeds of so many great porn lines that have come after it. Seymore Butts, Joey Silvera, Max Hardcore, Jules Jordan and countless others have been influenced by and have found inspiration in the adventures of Buttman. Historical impact aside, this is a really solid flick. Some of the women are better looking than others, but Tracey Adams, Champagne and Tianna really shine. While Stagliano has improved his sex scene and hires even better looking women these days, this was still ages ahead of its time sexually. The scene with Champagne really stands out even now and we all that Tianna is one serious butt-woman.

In addition to the great feature, we get a ton of bonus material. There are behind the scenes and bonus sex reels that show us what got left on the cutting room floor. Tricia Devereaux gives us a closer look at how the DVD was re-mastered and re-cut for the new release. There is a photo gallery, awards list, filmographies, and the usual collection. Best of all, we get a commentary from Stagliano as he watches the movie. These always give us a great insight into what it takes to make the porn we love so much.

Starring: This started it all for Buttman, and his imitators. John Stagliano appears in front of the camera and narrates from behind it. As male start Tom Byron said in recollection, it was weird for this guy to be filming and to be part of the film. But gonzo porn was born, for better or worse. Butt-lovers got a big eyefull: Tracy Adams in one of her sexiest teases; Bianca and Sascha Strange in a great lez-fest; Tianna serving up ass to Jamie Gillis; and Tanja DeVries and Champagne delivering anally charge sexual hackwork.

This was the beginning of the hand-held videocam era, but it's better than much of what followed. Stag spends a lot of time narrating, jacking off, and mixing between scenes, which is a wasteful distraction, but the roving-Venice-Beach filming and forays into Stag's beachside bedroom are scenic and fun.

Groundbreaking (in terms of experiments) and very hot due to the natural nastiness of the girls and the chemistry.
